Peace Doors
Peace Doors is a site-specific augmented reality public art project located at multiple locations around the world. The public can simply download and launch the Layar Augmented Reality Browser app on their iPhone or Android and aim the devices’ camera at the landscape near contested borders, checkpoints and other war torn or conflict ridden locations. The application uses geolocation software to superimpose a computer generated 3D graphic of a doorway at precise GPS coordinates, enabling the public to see the door integrated into the physical location as if it existed in the real world. People are encouraged to step through the door in a symbolic gesture, a portal between differences among people.
